History of the Adoption Community Network

The Network is a group of adoption professionals and adoptive parents who have come together with the vision of forming a collaborative partnership designed to support adoptive parenting.  The concept of the Network originated at a DCF hosted gathering of Connecticut’s adoption community in June 2006.  A series of planning meetings ensued with a goal being to identify the needs of Connecticut’s adoptive families. With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the UConn Health Center Adoption Assistance Program, effective date July 1, 2008, funding was provided to organize and sustain the Connecticut Adoption Community Network.  Specific to the agreement was development of this website designed to facilitate better communication statewide, and sponsorship of workshops, trainings, and other educational offerings to meet the needs of parents and to increase professional competencies.  We meet as a large group at least twice yearly.
